Former men’s basketball forward Chad Gillaspy selected by Tulsa in NBA Developmental League Draft

Former Evangel University Men’s Basketball forward Chad Gillaspy was selected in the sixth round by the Tulsa 66’ers in the NBA Developmental League draft on Friday, November 1, 2013. He was 96th player taken overall.

Gillaspy was a 2011 honorable mention NAIA-I All-American in his senior year with the Crusaders. The native of Miller, Missouri averaged 12.3 points and 8 rebounds per game in his final season at Evangel. He scored 1,146 points in his college career, ranking 23rd all-time at Evangel and exited the program ranked fourth all-time in rebounds with 791 and seventh in blocked shots with 53.

Last year, Gillaspy played his first professional basketball season in the National Basketball League of Canada seeing action in 24 games for Oshawa.

Founded in 2001, the NBA Developmental League is the official minor league to the National Basketball Association. The Tulsa 66’ers are the affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Their 50-game schedule starts on November 22 against the Iowa Energy.

Gillaspy is the first former Evangel player to be selected into the NBA D-League.
