Celebrate! Homecoming 2014 schedule includes inauguration ceremony

The countdown to a new academic year has been ticking for weeks as new and returning students anticipate the start of classes August 27. As anticipation builds, the Evangel community also looks ahead to the renewal of the traditional homecoming festivities October 9-11, 2014.
Celebrate! Called to Serve is the theme for the weekend, which includes the inauguration ceremony for Evangel president Dr. Carol Taylor. The inauguration will be the first at Evangel in more than 40 years.
The weekend also includes a concert on the lawn featuring HeartSong and the EU Jazz Orchestra, an alumni panel discussion with special guests, a campus-wide county fair with food, inflatables for kids, and yard games, the ever-popular EU’s Got Talent, a 5K Run/Walk and Crusaders football.

Thursday, October 9
Festivities will begin with a chapel service featuring HeartSong and special guest Scotty Gibbons.
Some of Evangel’s brightest young artists and musicians will be on display during an art gallery presentation in the Barnett Art Gallery from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Concert on the Lawn at 8 p.m. on the Evangel quad.
From 2 to 4 p.m., an alumni panel in Barnett Recital Hall will feature special guests Steve Donaldson, Wayne Tesch, Candace Wicke and Barry Corey. They’ll share some of their perspectives from the worlds of education, business and ministry.
Friday, October 10
Friday marks a historic day for the university. Evangel’s fourth president, Dr. Carol A. Taylor, will be inaugurated in a formal ceremony with faculty members and other higher education leaders adorned in academic regalia.
The inauguration ceremony is set for 10 a.m. in the Robert H. Spence Chapel.
Several alumni events will follow, highlighted by a campus-wide county fair from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the quad.
A homecoming favorite, EU’s Got Talent, will be from 8 to 9 p.m, followed by a pep rally at 9:20 p.m. Join the crowd to cheer on the Crusader football team.
Saturday, October 11
Evangel is partnering with Convoy of Hope to support feedONE, a program committed to providing food for children around the world. A 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. will benefit the cause.
The afternoon will bring Evangel fans to JFK Stadium for the football tailgate and homecoming game. The tailgate will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the game against Avila following at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-12.
