The
Lance
For more than 40 years, The Lance has served the student body with campus news, features and editorial opinion. The Lance, Evangel's weekly newspaper, serves as a campus, local and national news source and provides the campus with an open forum for discussion. The Lance is produced by students, who use Macintosh computers for writing, editing and production. All students, regardless of their majors, are eligible to work on The Lance staff. After taking Media Writing, they can take the newspaper workshop class to receive college credit for their work.
Students who work for The Lance gain experience in the following areas:
- Reporting
- Writing/Editing
- Photography
- Design
- Management
- Advertising
The Lance has consistently received All-American awards from the Associated Collegiate Press. This award is the highest rating available from that organization. The Lance also places in competitions with the Missouri College Media Association and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Melinda Booze is the faculty adviser.
"The experience I gained while working on The Lance was invaluable in helping me with my transition into the real world."
