Education Department: Educational Portfolio FAQ

1. What is an educational portfolio?

The educational portfolio documents your ability to plan, deliver and assess student learning in a classroom. The educational portfolio is submitted online.

2. Why is a portfolio required?

Your educational portfolio is based on the 11 Missouri Standards for Teacher Education (MoSTEP). All teacher candidates in the state of Missouri must exhibit competency in each of the 11 standards. A completed educational portfolio will cover all 11 standards.

3. When do I complete my educational portfolio?

You will be introduced to the educational portfolio when you apply to the Education program. You will add to your educational portfolio on a yearly basis. It will be completed during your student teaching semester.

4. Is there a cost for the educational portfolio?

Yes. You will be charged a one-time fee for the online educational portfolio during a curriculum course.

5. Is the educational portfolio required for certification?

Yes. You will need to complete the educational portfolio in order for the Evangel Education Department to recommend you for teacher certification in any state.

6. If I transfer into the Evangel Education Department do I need to do an educational portfolio?

Yes. All students need to demonstrate competency in the 11 MoSTEP standards.

7. Will this help me get a teaching job?

Yes. This assessment will show that you understand the process of learning and have the skills of a beginning teacher. This is not a document you would provide in its entirety during an interview, but you may select pieces to showcase your instructional abilities.
