Education Department: Student Teaching FAQ

1. When do I do my student teaching?

Your student teaching semester is usually your final semester of college work. A student must have completed all professional education courses required for the major.

2. How long is my student teaching experience?

All student teaching takes place over a 12-week period during which the student teacher devotes the full day, five days a week to student teaching responsibilities.

3. Must I have personal transportation in order to student teach?

While personal transportation enhances the options for your placement, efforts are made whenever necessary to provide for ride sharing with another student teacher.

4. Will I have input in my placement location?

When you submit an application for student teaching, you may request a special placement. These requests will be considered based on a number of variables.

5. How is my grade for student teaching determined?

It is a collective grade determined by both the cooperating teacher and university supervisor.

6. While student teaching, do I follow Evangel University's calendar for attendance or the public school's calendar?

All student teachers will follow the official calendar of the school where they are doing their student teaching.

7. What if I am ill and miss several days of student teaching?

Students are allowed to miss one day of student teaching without making it up. Any additional absences must be made up at the end of the 12 weeks.

8. May I do my student teaching back in my home school district?

Generally, placements for student teaching are required to be within a 50-mile radius of Springfield, Missouri.
