Professor publishes article
Debra Ann Davenport Yonke has been published in the fall 2011 Journal of Research in Education. The article is titled “Preservice Teacher Beliefs about Retention: How Do They Know What They Don’t Know?”
Evangel offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. All of Evangel's teacher education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and are approved by the Missouri State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Majors
- Early Childhood Education: The Early Childhood Comprehensive major program leads to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree with eligibility for certification to teach in early childhood (birth-grade 3) and to teach elementary school (grades 1-6). Graduates of this program have many career options including early childhood special education (ECSE) teacher, elementary school teacher in a private or public school setting, a child care center director, a parent educator, a curriculum coordinator in a hospital, a missionary associate or a children's pastor.
- Elementary Education: The Elementary Education major program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree or Bachelor of Arts degree with eligibility for certification to teach grades 1-6. Graduates of this program are prepared to effectively teach elementary school in private and public school settings here in Missouri and around the world.
- Middle School Education: The Middle School Education major program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with eligibility for certification to teach two subject areas grades 5-9. Graduates of this program are prepared to effectively teach in a private or public middle school setting.
- Secondary Education: The Secondary Education major program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with eligibility for certification to teach grades 9-12 or grades K-12 in a chosen content area. Graduates of this program are prepared to effectively teach students in the chosen content area and grade levels of certification in both public and private schools.
Minor
- Special Education: This program prepares Evangel students by teaching and developing their foundational skills to better educate special need's students with a variety of disabilities. This minor can be earned in conjunction with the Elementary or Secondary Education Major. Graduates with this minor have the opportunity to become certified in Cross-Categorical Disabilities, grades K-12. Areas include:
- Emotional/behavioral disabilities
- Cognitive disabilities
- Physical disabilities
- Other health impairments
