Philosophy

The art department at Evangel University endeavors to integrate a vital Christian worldview with a strong commitment to high professional artistic standards. These factors contribute to our unique environment, providing students with the opportunity for both spiritual and academic growth. A professional education centered in the field of art and integrated with liberal arts and theology is an excellent end in itself, and an increasingly important alternative to a traditional academic education. The art area is committed to the concept that art is expressive of the whole person - intellect, body and sprit. In our present culture, we are daily bombarded with visual imagery that offers a proliferation of impressions more powerful than any other medium. Visual communicators play a central role in creating and defining any culture. The church of the 21st century will prove itself ineffective if Christian colleges fail to adequately prepare young men and women who are responding to the high call of God to enter professions of art. At Evangel University, we feel that God has raised up an art area for such a time as this.
