Admission to Evangel University Music Program
Students must first be accepted to Evangel University before applying for Admission to the Music Program. Students who wish to be admitted as a music major should have some experience reading and performing music. The admission requirements for the Department of Music include:
- An audition in the primary area of study (voice, keyboard, or instrumental). Repertoire suggestions can be found here. Pianists and instrumentalists will demonstrate proficiency on scales. Sight-reading in the area of performance concentration will also be required. On-site auditions are preferred.
- A theory placement exam. Vocalists will also be given an Ear Training/Tonal Memory exam.
- A piano placement exam.
- A short personal essay describing what aspirations the student has in pursuing a career in music.
- Recommendation from three (3) music professionals.
Based on an audition in the chosen area, a student may:
- Be given full acceptance into the music major curriculum.
- Be accepted on a conditional status for a period of one semester, at which time they must reaudition during the semester jury exam.
- Be advised to pursue another area of study or possibly to minor in music.
Other Considerations
Incoming students who do not complete the music audition process may enroll in music courses for one semester. At the conclusion of that semester, the student must apply to complete the music audition process as outlined above.
Current Evangel University students wishing to transfer to the Music Program must successfully complete the Music Audition Process as stated above and successfully complete one semester of study in their chosen performance area prior to being admitted to the Music Program.
Transfer students from other institutions must successfully complete the music audition process by the conclusion of this first semester of study. At the conclusion of this semester, the Jury Members will make a formal recommendation to the Department Chair regarding the ability of the transfer student to be successful in that performance area.
