Founded in 1961, the Iota Chi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (1) served as a professional fraternity for Evangel student musicians without regard to major (one chapter of more than 175 nationally).  Two years later, in the 1962-63 school year, an Evangel chapter of Lambda Mu Sigma (2) sorority for ladies was established.  Members of these vibrant groups provided music for home games (pep bands) and did campus and community concerts sometimes in cooperation with students from other local colleges (mainly SMS and Drury).  During the middle and late 1980’s the Phi Mu Alpha and Lambda Mu Sigma programs began to lag when leadership at both the local and national level weakened.  Eventually, the organizations deteriorated and were eliminated by default.
