The Music alumni newsletter published each spring and fall semester is named “Overtones.” It was first published in the fall of 1976. Designed to keep its readers up-to-date with what is happening in relation to Music Department activities, it has for years been a primary source of information for hundreds of Evangel music alumni. It reports accomplishments and activities of music alumni, faculty, and major music events on campus. The newsletter has done much through the years to keep alumni and friends informed about the department. It has formed a tie between school and graduate and encouraged former students to stay in touch with the university and with each other. A review of “Overtones,” on file in the Music Office, has helped to confirm and clarify personalities and dates for this document that would have been almost impossible to find elsewhere. The format and appearance of the “magazine” has changed several times, but the latest copy with a mixture of color and black and white print (February 2008) contains lots of photographs, modern artistic layout, interesting and relevant information. The newsletter continues to serve a strategic role in the mission of the Evangel Music Department.
