Full-Time Music Faculty

Many agree that the measure of any educational facility is its teachers. There could never be a great university or a great music department without great faculty. Evangel has been privileged to have music teachers, not only gifted and capable, but also thoroughly Christian individuals who have been dedicated to the Lord’s calling – people who loved their students and loved teaching them.
Thirty-eight faculty have served full-time in the history of Evangel – 1955 to 2008. This is a relatively small number and is accounted for by lengthy tenure and significant assistance from adjunct personnel. Together, counting only those serving full-time, music faculty have put in 479 years with an average tenure of more than 12 ½ years. Of course some faculty who served full-time also contributed in a part-time (adjunct) capacity, sometimes for several years. Others, who already have had many years of full-time service at Evangel, continue teaching full-time at this writing (2008). John Shows has the longest tenure on record – more than 40 years, not counting his one year as adjunct teacher. Calvin Johanssen would be next with 39 years of service.
