Adjunct Music Faculty

Probably not recognized to the extent they deserve, our part-time (adjunct) music faculty have contributed immeasurably to the progress and success of Evangel’s music department. When needed, gifted individuals have helped to cover certain classes – courses needed by students but difficult or impossible to add to the full-time faculty schedules. In addition, they have helped to balance the loads of full-time faculty in times of unexpected enrollments. For example, a full-time teacher with classes and (usually) a number of applied students may have requests for more applied lessons than their load can handle. Adjunct teachers have usually been available to teach these. Through the years, they have also enabled the department to provide its students with applied specialists in almost every performing medium: viola student studying with a teacher who plays viola; a harp student with a performing harpist; an English horn student with an English horn player/teacher; etc.

Beth McLellan (Woodwinds & Handbells), with 48 continuous years as adjunct faculty – and still serving –supersedes all faculty at all levels for length of tenure. Kenneth Swanson (Strings & Percussion), who retired in 1995, is next with some 34 years of service and Marilyn Boston third with 33 years and still going. Highest commendations and deep gratitude are in order to these – and all our adjunct faculty – who have served Evangel so faithfully.
