Administrative Assistants (Secretaries)
Previous Page - Table of Contents - Next Page
It seems that the job of a music secretary is more challenging than those in most other similar positions. Not only have they had responsibilities as office receptionists or for assisting the chairperson but, in many respects, they have served as secretaries to a whole host of faculty members – both full-time and part-time. Doing the traditional office work – writing letters, keeping records, and arranging schedules – can be a challenge. But then a plethora of additional tasks are tagged on:
- typing syllabi and tests (sometimes with little advance notice)
- keeping the calendar schedule for the use of the music auditorium (as well as the chapel concerts)
- creating attractive printed programs for recitals and concerts, working on details relating to band, choir, or orchestra tours
- preparing reports for grades
- scheduling students for applied exams, piano proficiency tests, and scholarship auditions
- supervising work study students, and on and on.
The music office has been honored with many committed, faithful assistants. Students have learned to love them. Faculty appreciate them. Administrators are grateful for them. The term “Administrative Assistant” surely is more appropriate than “Secretary” however respectful or considerate the latter term is.
In addition to these faithful Evangel music employees, are many wonderful work study and student assistants who have served in helping the music program run smoothly and efficiently.
