Letter from Dr. Michael Kolstad

Dear Friends,
As the current chairman of a music department with a history such as ours, I am honored to follow in the footsteps of the great music pioneers of our institution . . . Edna Baker, Calvin Johansson, Joseph Nicholson, June Kean, and John Shows. Each of these, plus others, created the foundation and structure of today’s E.U. Music Department – a thriving, vital institute of higher education, impacting both the church and the world through our faculty and graduates.
Because of the work of the music faculty, both past and present, the Evangel University Music Department continues to attract students from throughout the world; the faculty includes world-class musicians and teachers; our degree programs are nationally accredited; the department has been endowed by committed benefactors; and, our graduates are making an impact throughout the world!
I want to give special recognition to Dr. Joseph Nicholson who has worked on this project for the past three years. He has gone through hundreds of pages of documents (Overtones, recital programs, etc.) and interviewed many current and former music faculty. From this, he has written this history of the Evangel University Music Department. Thank You!
The Evangel University Music Department has had an amazing (and miraculous) first 50 years! Through the work and foundation set forth by the people mentioned in this document we look forward to an incredible future!
