Letter from John Shows (1)
May 2, 2007
Dear Joe & Jo Ellen,
I wish you could have been here for the official Retirement Dinner last Friday evening. Everything about the evening was near perfect … the décor, the food, the music, the tributes, and the casual conversations around the tables. The taped tributes were especially meaningful, and I so much appreciated your willingness to tape and send your good wishes. I was almost overwhelmed!
It’s hard to believe that we have been associated together for 44 years, since I came to Evangel in the Fall of 1963! You were such a role model for me then … and a strong influence that got me focused and channeled in the right direction. Thanks, Joe, for being God’s tool at a critical juncture of my life. Your believing in me, both as a student and then as a faculty colleague, have meant so much to me. I was buoyed by your confidence that I could succeed and achieve. I am in your debt.
God has been very good to me. I have been blessed … and starting next week I begin packing up 41 years of things, and memories of all that God has done. He has proven faithful above everything else. In these days I am filled with many different emotions … but most of all I’m glad for the mentors and friends, like Joe & Jo Ellen Nicholson, who have enriched my life beyond what I can adequately express. Just let me say a big “THANK YOU”! You two are very special to me and Roslyn.
Love,
John Shows,
Your student, colleague, and friend
