Department of Music Scholarships

The Evangel University Department of Music invites all music students to audition for scholarships. Scholarships are based upon the individual’s performance ability and the needs of the various areas within the department. Any student, regardless of academic major, may audition for a scholarship. Three Audition Options

Option #1 ~ Music Days

Music Days provides the student the opportunity to spend the day as a college music student. Participants will attend music classes, eat lunch with music students, meet with music faculty, hear various Evangel music ensembles in concert, and audition for scholarship as well as acceptance into the music program. There are two Music Days and one audition day (this is in conjunction with eu:24). Learn more about Music Days

Option #2 ~ Auditions by Appointment

If you cannot attend Music Days, you can still audition for a scholarship by contacting the Music Office and setting up a private audition. If you have questions, please contact the Department of Music at 417-865-2815 ext. 7211 or email.

Option #3 ~ Recorded Auditions

Although preferred, a live audition may not be possible due to distance, schedule conflicts, etc. If this is the case, a high quality CD, DVD or Digital Audio File is acceptable.

All recordings are due by March 1.

Audition Requirements

*Voice — The student should prepare at least two selections for the vocal audition. One selection should be from the traditional vocal literature, such as an art song or an aria. The second selection may be of the student’s choosing and should be of a contrasting style such as Broadway musical, folk, gospel, sacred, etc. Recorded accompaniments are acceptable. A sight-reading and ear-training exercise may also be included in the audition.

Piano — The student should prepare two selections of contrasting styles (i.e. Bach two-part invention or a Mozart sonata, first movement. Sight-reading and scales may also be included in the audition.

*Non-Keyboard Instruments — The student should prepare a solo selection from the standard repertory (i.e. contest lists, etc.). In addition, the student may be asked to play scales in the major keys and the chromatic scale in at least two octaves. A sight-reading and ear-training exercise may also be included in the audition.

*Percussion — The student should demonstrate basic skills on two of the following instruments: snare drum, timpani, and any of the mallet instruments. Guidelines for each category are:
