Majors
Science and technology majors can earn a bachelor of science or a bachelor
of arts degree. In addition to the areas listed in the next column,
minors are also available in physical science and physics. The Department
of Science and Technology offers six majors:
- Biology is a wide-ranging field of endeavor, allowing
for many diverse employment opportunities and graduate studies. Recent
graduates have entered the fields of medicine (including physicians,
nursing, physician's assistants, physical therapists and medical technologists),
marine biology, field ecology, pharmacology, veterinary medicine,
teaching, physiological computing and many others.
- Chemistry majors are also prepared for a wide variety
of career options and graduate studies. Recent graduates have opened
their own chemical analysis laboratories, gone to medical school or
become teachers.
- Computer Science is one of the fastest-growing
fields in college education, and career opportunities abound for our
graduates. The program provides preparation for employment upon graduation
or for an academic career in graduate school.
-
Environmental Science is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to prepare
for professional work in areas relating to the environment,
conservation, or field research. Students in this program take a broad
mix of classes in the life and physical sciences. This major provides
students with a large amount of field and laboratory work.
- Mathematics majors may go on to teach mathematics
or go to graduate school. Graduates in mathematics also find that
their degree opens the door to a number of other opportunities, from
actuarial science to business to law school.
- Medical Technology is a cooperative program in
which students attend Evangel for three years, and --if accepted--complete
the fourth year in a local school of medical technology.
- Nursing and Pre-Nursing programs is a cooperative program with
Cox College of Nursing.
- Science Education, a cooperative effort between
the science and technology and education departments, prepares majors
for the teaching profession in the fields of biology and chemistry.
- Pre-Engineering prepares students to transfer to
a school of engineering of their choice with an associate of arts
degree. Also, joint degree programs with Washington University and
the University of Missouri-Columbia are offered in which a student
takes five or six semesters at Evangel, and then upon completing a
degree in engineering, earns a dual B.S. degree.
