The Social Science Department offers courses in American and world civilization, government, legal studies, conflict resolution, economics, geography, anthropology, international/multicultural studies, and public administration.
- American Constitutional Law studies major Supreme
Court decisions interpreting the U.S. Constitution.
- Church-State Relations looks at the background,
development, problems, and Constitutional aspects of church-state relations in the United States.
- Economics in Society is a survey of leading theories
and principles that have historically attempted to explain the economic
life of people and a changing society.
- Fundamentals of Paralegalism offers an introduction
to the paralegal profession and the legal environment, including
basic paralegal tasks, skills, and professional responsibilities.
- International Law examines the nature and development of
an international legal system that defines the right and practices of nation states as well as judicial settlements of
international disputes.
- Introduction to Archaeology examines history, objectives, and methods of archaeological discovery and interpretation; cultural, historical, and functional analysis of technique; and readings in selected primary sources.
- Social Sciences Travel gives credit for travel when supported by appropriate written reports.
- State and Local Government studies city, county,
and state governments and their relationships to the national government.
- Twentieth-Century Europe looks at the causes and
effects of WWI, Europe between the wars, WWII, and continuing unresolved
problems.
- Washington Studies is an internship in which students gain practical experience in politics by working in congressional and other government offices in the nation's capital. Government students can also participate in a Model United Nations program.
- World History Topics explores the development of
other nations and cultures such as England, Russia, Latin America,
Asia (Japan and China), Islamic World, and periods of ancient history
and the Renaissance and Reformation periods.
