These pictures were taken on a "dig" in which the Social Science Department worked with the Missouri Department of Transportation in a "salvage" and "rescue" operation. The site was about to be impacted by a new bridge and access road in Miller County. Once the new bridge and road was constructed the Native American site would be lost for further excavation. At the very least, the artifacts would lie under the road. At the worst, the artifacts would be destroyed or moved for their original site.
Evangel students participated in every phase of the operation. They surveyed and layed out excavation grids, opened excavation units, recovered and catalogued artifacts. Evangel students worked closely with the project director, Aaron Angelen, who is an Archaeology Assistant employed by the Missouri Department of Transportation. Future projects are planned.
