Like other programs at Evangel University, the Legal Studies Program is committed to excellence. In an age when law schools are flooded with applicants, students must distinguish themselves from others through their undergraduate degrees. A distinctly Christian undergraduate education from Evangel University can assist you in making that difference.
The Legal Studies Program is designed not only to meet the needs of students who plan to go to law school, but also to train students to become paralegals in the legal, government, and business communities. Graduates from Evangel's program frequently boast of how well-prepared they were for the rigors of their first and second years of law school, while their law school classmates who majored in business, English, and science—three very popular majors for law school attendees—struggled to grasp what their professors were expecting of them.
The Legal Studies Program is popular with students and law schools alike because of the practical training students receive to excel in law school upon graduation. Dr. Bryan Sanders, department chair and pre-law advisor, goes beyond the classroom by pushing for relevant experience. For example, Evangel’s Legal Research courses feature training on WESTLAW, the premier computer-assisted legal research database system from West Publishing Company. Evangel’s pre-law program is distinctive because the professors have not only their Juris Doctorate degrees, but also actively practice law, offering real life experience to the classroom setting.
Evangel pre-law students also have exclusive scholarship opportunities due to the program’s reputation with certain law schools. Regent University School of Law offers a special scholarship exclusively for Evangel pre-law graduates, and frequently gives full academic scholarships to Evangel pre-law graduates.
Additionally, Evangel’s exceptional student-led Pre-Law Society offers numerous opportunities for pre-law students to get involved in national and regional pre-law events. The students organize practice L-SATs as well as visits to the Missouri Supreme Court, Christian Legal Society functions, area law schools, and a yearly visit to Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va.
