1960s

Douglas C. Chatfield ’64 resides in West Chicago, IL, with his wife, Ann (Collier ’63). Two of their children, Sheri ’90 and Mark ’94, are graduates of Evangel. Their other son, Jared, is a current Evangel student. Doug is president of ESD Inc., a company that develops and markets student and business systems to colleges and schools. He is involved at his church as a board member, teacher and Royal Ranger leader. Doug also participates in the community, state and local politics, and was appointed to the White House Conference on Families by the Governor. Jerry Fish ’65 and his wife, Fran (Fife ’64), live in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Two of his three daughters attended Evangel. Jerry is a fundraiser for nonprofit political organizations. He is active in his church as a deacon, member of the board of trustees, treasurer, cell group leader, Sunday school teacher, worship leader, and building committee chairman. He is also the local director for the March of Dimes.

Sherry (Danielson) Ramsay ’67 and husband, Chuck, live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sherry, now retired, owned her own business that sold ladies’ accessories to retailers and catalogue houses. She is involved in both children's and homeless ministries in her church. Sherry has been involved in alumni activities in the Tulsa area.


1970s

Ted Papit ’70 graduated from Evangel University in 1970 with a bachelor degree in political science. The majority of Ted’s working career was spent in the restaurant industry where he served as the chief operations officer of Jerrico Inc. which operated 1,500 restaurants (Long John Silver’s, Fazoli’s and Jerry’s) in 37 states and several foreign countries. Following that, he was the chief executive officer of Unigate Restaurants (Black-eyed Pea, Taco Bueno and Casa Bonita) and chief executive officer of Furr’s Cafeterias. Ted retired from business in 1998 and joined the National Board of Teen Challenge in January 2000. He served as the administrative manager of Teen Challenge, USA from January 2002 until March 2007. In addition, he has been an adjunct faculty member in the business department at Evangel since September 2002 and enjoys the opportunity to interact with the students. His spare time hobbies include pistol shooting, fishing and traveling with his wife, Diana. Ted and Diana (also an Evangel alum) have been married over 37 years and live in Nixa, Missouri.

Bunny (Frost) Hartzler ’71 resides in Gladstone, Missouri, with her husband, Lloyd ’70. Two of their three children attended Evangel. Daughter Joan Nelson is a ’94 graduate. Bunny earned her master’s degree in education from Missouri State University. She is an assistant pastor at Northland Cathedral in Kansas City. She is also the Christian education and children’s director for the Northern Missouri District. Bunny has been a speaker for national conferences, has served as district women’s ministries director, and has written and published children’s curriculum. She helps direct community events for children, such as, basketball programs, egg hunts, harvest activities and parent training programs.

Phil Pierce ’72 and his wife, Gayle (Kaluka ’74), live in Springfield, Missouri, where he is a business development consultant with A/G Financial Services Group. Phil initiated a mentoring partnership between A/G Financial and Springfield Public Schools. He is a board member, greeter and a participant in his church’s prison ministries. Phil is a supporter of Evangel and its activities. They have one daughter.

Diann (Kelly) Rose ’72, and her husband, Glenn, live in Canyon, Texas. They have two daughters. Kelly is a 2002 graduate of Evangel, and Savannah will be entering Evangel this fall as a freshman. In her church, Diann is an executive officer for the Christian Women’s Club, a Sunday school teacher, VBS leader and a member of the pastoral search committee. Her community activities include high school athletic Booster Club board member, sponsor for several other school activities, and she is a part of a community service organization.

Valerie J. Bristor ’77 lives in Pompano Beach, Florida. She earned her Ph.D. at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and is senior associate dean and professor of reading/language arts at Florida Atlantic University-Boca Raton. Valerie has distinguished herself in her field and is a frequent presenter at conferences and forums. She was a nominee for the President’s Leadership Award in 2006, a finalist for the College of Education Distinguished Teacher Award in 1997, and was a recipient of the University Teacher Incentive Program Award in 1994. Valerie has written extensively for publications and grants. Through her church, she has participated in ministries such as FoodShare, Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child, children’s church and drama presentations. Valerie has been a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House and American/Canadian Cancer Societies. She is a current member of the board of directors for Broward Education Foundation and the School Site Grant Evaluation Committee.


1980s

Mark Porter ’83 is married to Paula (Severance ’82). They reside in Ozark, Missouri, and they have two daughters that attend Evangel. Mark’s experience in the field of education has ranged from teacher to administrator, and he is currently superintendent of the Wright City RII Schools. The family attends James River Assembly where Mark is an orchestra member, Bible quiz coach and he helps with the youth Fine Arts ministries. Read Mark's alumni spotlight.

Teresa (Bilyeu) De Vries ’84 makes her home in Springfield, Missouri, with her husband, Kenton ’85, and their two children. Teresa is a private instructor of voice and piano. She also substitutes in the Springfield Public School System. Teresa sings the the choir at her church, directs the children’s choirs and musicals, and volunteers in her children’s schools.

Jim Duncan ’84 is married to Holly (Nash ’85). They reside in Hollister, MO. Jim is the director of sales and convention services for Big Cedar Lodge. In addition to keeping up with the acitivities of his four children, Jim is a Sunday school teacher in his local church. He also makes time to be a high school football official. Michael Burlew ’86 and his wife, Erin (Wamble ’85), have two elementary-age children. They reside in Springfield, MO. Mike has been employed by BKD, LLP, a Top 10 CPA and consulting firm, for more than 18 years. He became a certified public accountant in 1988 and was promoted to partner in 1997. Mike ministers in the nursery and preschool areas of his church and is a Royal Ranger leader. He has also served on the Big Brother/Big Sisters board and at the community counseling center. Mike is a member of the Evangel University Scholarship Endowed Business Council and the BKD scholarship committee.

Janet (Gianettino) Snook ’89 resides in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with her husband, Dan, and their three elementary age children. Janet earned a master’s degree in music education from Eastman School of Music. She is involved in many facets of the children’s ministries at Evangel Temple, where her husband is on staff. She directs the children’s choir and is a member of the Mothers of Preschoolers Steering Team. She enjoys directing the children’s muscial productions in the church as well as for the community.


1990s and 2000s

Krista Sederwall ’92 makes her home in Port Washington, Wisconsin. She was an instructor of Broadcasting/ Communication Arts for North Central University in Minneapolis until she recently accepted a position as a video producer and scriptwriter for Element Media and Design. Krista is a Toastmasters International member and has won several awards at the local and state levels. In her church she sings on the worship team and is a group leader for the college and young adult small group. Last year, Krista backpacked through 12 different countries, serving as a still photographer for a book that is being written about the adventure.

Leah (Shows) Miller '93, lives with her husband, Matthew, and infant son in Rockford, Illinois. She is a marketing account executive for Landmark Incentive Marketing in Chicago and is transitioning to part-time work in order to spend more time with her family. Leah participates in a young adult ministry and plays piano for her church. She is a current member of the alumni board. Read Leah's alumni spotlight.

Jason Herzog ’94, resides in Danville, Illinois, with his wife, Valerie, and their two daughters. He is the youth pastor at Danville First Assembly of God and the music/band teacher for their academy. Jason uses his musical talents in community activities such as the Festival Chorus, Chamber Orchestra for the local high school, and the area wide pastors association. Read Jason's alumni spotlight.

Jamie Bilton ’96 lives in Olathe, Kansas, with his wife, Michele (Crawford ’95), and their three preschool children. Jamie is a financial services support specialist for State Farm Insurance. He has excelled in his field, qualifying him for several awards with State Farm Insurance. Jamie is a small group leader in his church, where he also volunteers in the nursery and helps with an outreach ministry. Jamie is a member of the EU Business Alumni Council.

Annette (Heide ’96) Vargason and her husband, Jeff ’95, reside in Sherwood, Oregon, with their two-year-old daughter. Annette earned her MBA at Oregon State University and is an advanced services project manager for Cisco Systems in Oswego. In 2004 she gained certification as a Project Management Professional. She is a Royal Family Kids Camp volunteer through her local church.   

Samuel J. Lupica ’99 and wife, Shanna (Baldree ’00), make their home in Broadview Heights, Ohio. He is an associate vice president of investments for Wachovia Securities in Akron. In his church, Sam is the co-director of the sports programs and is dean of men for the Royal Family Kids Camps. In his community, Sam volunteers with the American Red Cross and the Broadview Heights Emergency Response Team.

Kyle Dana ’00 resides in Battlefield, Missouri, with his wife, Kimberly (Visocan ’03). Kyle is senior vice president of retirement planning for AG Financial Services in Springfield. He is also a licensed life and health insurance broker in Missouri. Kyle is active in his local church, ministering in the preschool department. Kyle is on the SIFE advisory board at Evangel University and has been a guest speaker in the Business Department. Read Kyle's alumni spotlight.

Brett Bailey ’01 and his wife, Ashley (Ring ’01), make their home in St. James, Missouri, with their 4-month-old daughter. While serving in the U.S. Army, Brett was a distinguished honor graduate in the Infantry Officer Course and the Air Assault School and was awarded the Bronze Star. He serves as the program director for the Boys and Girls Town of Missouri in St. James and is a young adult Sunday school teacher in his local church.

Jason Huneycutt ’02 resides in Springfield, MO. He is the choral director at Nixa High School. Jason earned numerous honors for his academic and musical achievements while attending Evangel. At his church he teaches Sunday school and is a member of the worship team, choir and orchestra. Jason has also served as an adjunct member of the faculty at Evangel, teaching voice and piano lessons. Read Jason's alumni spotlight.

Candice (Canfield) Carter ’03 and her husband, Michael ’03, make their home in Cape Coral, Florida. Candice is active in the music ministry of her local church. Her community volunteer service includes Gift of Sight, Senior Companion Program, Literacy Council, and (F.I.R.S.T.) For Immigrants and Refugees Surviving Torture.
