Jason and Valerie met within their first two weeks as freshman at Evangel. It wasn’t long before they were dating, and in June of 1993 they were married. They enjoyed spending their senior year at Evangel as a married couple living in the Perkin Apartments.
After graduation Jason and Valerie moved to Danville, Illinois, where Jason served as youth pastor at First Assembly of God. He also taught music at the church’s Christian school. Valerie taught elementary music at a public school and gave private music lessons in their home. They lived in Illinois for nine years before moving to Sullivan, Missouri.
In Sullivan, Jason is the youth minister at First Assembly of God, and he also leads worship and directs the choir. In addition, he teaches band two days a week at a Catholic school.
Valerie spends two days a week teaching music at a school in Sullivan, and the rest of the week she enjoys staying at home while taking care of their children Katherine (6), Grace (3), and Madalynn (8 months).
For the past year and a half, Jason has served on the Evangel University Alumni Board of Directors.
Jason and Valerie have many fond memories of traveling with the Evangel Concert Band, and they still keep in contact with many of their friends from the band.
Jason has brought many of his youth group students to Crusader Days. At this time two of his youth group students from Illinois attend Evangel. When reflecting on Evangel, Jason states, “Valerie and I always tell our students that Evangel is the place to go. They will receive a great education and grow closer to the Lord.”
