Dr. Douglas C Chatfield '64
Occupation: Currently retired, former company president and professor.

After graduation from Ohio State, Doug joined the graduate faculty of Texas Tech University, teaching graduate courses in Statistics, Cognition and Artificial Intelligence during his 17-year tenure. His research involved computer-based expert systems in training and education. In addition to the publication of one book and many articles, he consulted for the Navy and several corporations. He also served on the White House Conference on Families for the state of Texas and later at the national level under the Carter Administration.

In 1986, Doug left academia to join the corporate world. He served as an executive for the Unisys Corporation and later for the Covansys Corporation, managing software development centers. He eventually purchased a small Chicago firm that developed and marketed administrative software for colleges and school districts across the country. In 2003 he sold his company to another corporation and retired.

Doug is currently serving on the Evangel Alumni Board of Directors and is an enthusiastic supporter of the school. Doug met his wife (Ann Collier) at Evangel, his two older children (Sheri and Mark) graduated from Evangel, and his youngest son, Jared, is currently a junior at Evangel. Ann’s sister Carol (Collier) Barnowski (’62) attended Evangel, and Doug’s sister Dianne (Chatfield) Curley (’70) graduated from Evangel. So Doug’s family is completely entrenched in the school.

Doug feels that not only did Evangel prepare him for later graduate work and a career, but it also prepared him for a teaching ministry. He has taught courses in all the churches he has attended since graduation, and he especially loves to teach biblical history. “Though Bible was not my major, Evangel’s courses and faculty expanded my love of Christ and a love of God’s Word.” Doug and his family currently attend Calvary Church in Naperville, Illinois.
