Men's Basketball
A highlight of the men’s basketball program at Evangel is the 2001-02 Evangel basketball team’s NAIA II national championship. That team finished the year with a 35-1 record and was ranked No. 1 in the nation all season. At the end of 15 of Evangel’s 17 years as a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference the Crusaders have been among the top five teams and have won the conference championship three times (2001-02, 2000-01, and 1996-97). Evangel has enjoyed four trips to the NAIA national playoffs (2001-02, 2000-01, 1998-99, 1996-97). Forty-nine athletes have won all-conference laurels (27 1st team), 20 All-American awards have been won (five 1st team), and five NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete awards have been awarded. In addition, head coach Steve Jenkins has been honored with five conference coach-of-the-year awards and, following Evangel’s national championship season in 2001-02, Jenkins was honored with national coach-of-the-year plaudits.
