Steve Jenkins, 51, is the head Evangel men's golf coach. An avid golfer, Jenkins begins his sixth year as the head golf mentor in 2003-04. Jenkins is also the men's basketball coach at Evangel and began his 21st year in that capacity in 2002-03. He has been honored as the Heart of America Athletic Conference's basketball coach of the year three times.

A 1974 Evangel graduate, Jenkins earned a B.A. degree in psychology and physical education. He graduated summa cum laude. Jenkins was not only successful in the classroom, but he was also a star basketball and baseball player for the Crusaders. He earned four baseball and three basketball letters. Jenkins earned his master's degree from the University of South Florida in 1978.

Following his graduation from Evangel, Jenkins pursued his coaching and teaching career at Evangel Christian School in Lakeland, Fla., from 1974-76. At Evangel Christian, Jenkins coached basketball and baseball. He returned to Evangel in 1977 as an assistant coach to then-head mentor Aundrae Curtis. He also directed the Evangel baseball team from 1978 through 1983.

enkins' baseball teams turned in a 132-97-3 record. The 132 wins are the second-most by any Evangel baseball coach. In addition to his duties at Evangel, Jenkins was the NAIA District 16 men's basketball chairman from 1987-90.

Jenkins and his wife, Rhonda (also a 1974 Evangel grad), are from Pittsfield, 111. They have three children. Sarah is a 2000 graduate of Evangel and currently teaches third grade at Eugene Field Elementary. Jon also graduated from Evangel. David is a senior golfer at the University of Missouri. The family resides in Springfield.
