Evangel travel to Williams Baptist for a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Crusaders are coming off of a Saturday sweep of Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.) winning 16-2 and 15-4. Williams Baptist has played one varsity game so far this spring and lost to University of the Ozarks 20-1.
Chad Culpepper will make one of the starts for Evangel…Started last week against College of the Ozarks (4 inn, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO)...Went 4-4 with a 3.57 ERA for Evangel last season…Ht: 6’1, Wt: 195, sophomore from Harrisonville, Missouri
Andy Pfeifer will start the other game for Evangel…He made a relief appearance last week against C of O in game 2 of the dh: 3 inn, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO…Last year, he was 3-3 with 2 saves and a 7.12 ERA…A sophomore from Springfield-Hillcrest…Ht: 6’3, Wt: 175.
Evangel won the match-up with Williams Baptist last season winning 6-5. The Crusaders pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth to break a 5-5 tie. Phil Reed went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Evangel in the game.
Dan Julian is hitting .500 in four games going 6 for 12 with 3 RBIs, 4 runs, a double and a triple. Zach Farmer is 6 for 14 (.429) with 6 RBIs, a double and two triples. Phil Reed is 5 for 12 (.417) with 6 RBIs and two doubles.
Evangel swept Hillsdale Baptist in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Crusaders won the first game 16-2 in five innings. Hillsdale Baptist hurt their own cause by walking 14 batters while the Crusaders scored 16 runs on only 8 hits. Brandon Scott led Evangel with 3 RBIs. Evangel won the second game 15-4 and the Saints were their own worst enemy again committing seven errors. Phil Reed was 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs.
The Crusaders will host a four game series against Kansas Wesleyan with a doubleheader Friday and Saturday.
