Saturday’s forecast has adjusted this weekend’s scheduled series against Kansas Wesleyan. Friday’s game will be a doubleheader as scheduled, but Saturday will shortened to a single, 7-inning game starting at 1 p.m.
Rafael Frias will start Friday for Evangel…He will make his second start of the season and first appearance since EU’s Feb. 10 opening game against College of the Ozarks: no decision, 4 inn, 5 H, 5 R,
4 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO…Last year Frias was 5-3 with a 5.63 ERA…A senior from Orlando, Fla….Ht: 6-0, Wt: 200
Chad Correa will start the other game on Friday for Evangel…He will make his second appearance and first start of the year…Took the loss in a relief appearance in game one 2/10 against College of the Ozarks: 2 inn, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO…A sophomore from Loveland, Colorado…pitched last year for Colby C.C….Ht: 6-2, Wt: 185.
Saturday’s starter will be announced later.
Evangel won at Williams Baptist (Ark.) 8-5. Trailing 5-3 after three innings, the Crusaders scored a run in the fourth, then a 4-run fifth inning gave them the lead for good. Andrew Rickman went 2 for 2 with a two doubles and Zach Johnson homered and drove in three runs for Evangel. Chad Culpepper (1-0) got the win and struck out 8 batters over six innings. The Crusaders had a 5-1 lead after four innings in the second game of the doubleheader when was called for darkness.
Andrew Rickman is 5 for 10 in his first five games and three of his five hits are doubles…Rickman has a slugging percentage of .800…Zach Farmer has a hit all five Evangel games and is 8 for 17 (.471) with a double, two triples and 6 RBIs…Zach Johnson has driven in six runs in his last two games.
Kansas Wesleyan is 1-5 after four losses to Rogers State (Okla.) and splitting a doubleheader with Southern Nazarene. The Coyotes received votes for the NAIA Top 25 National Preseason Poll, were picked to win the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and finished 38-18 last season.
Evangel hosts Ottawa University (Kan.) on Wed., Feb. 25 for a doubleheaders starting at noon at Crusaders Field.
