Springfield, MO — Junior Kendra Corbin and Sophomore Chad Culpepper were named Softball and Baseball player and pitcher of the week by the Heart of America Athletic Conference for the week of March 9-15.
Corbin a junior from Andrews, Texas was named the HAAC Softball Player of the Week. Corbin hit .600 for the week in the Lady Crusaders five games (12-20). She drove in three runs and scored seven more from the leadoff spot where she also hit three doubles a triple and a Home Run. Corbin tacked on two stolen bases and was perfect in the field for Evangel making no errors in thirteen chances at the center field spot.
Culpepper a sophomore from Harrisonville, Missouri was named the HAAC Baseball Pitcher of the week. Chad went 1-0 in his lone start for the Crusaders giving up 1 earned run with 2 hits over seven complete innings verses Avila University. Chad struck out nine batters while walking only one in a 3-2 victory for the Crusaders.
Corbin is the second Lady Crusader to win this award; Breanna Canclini has won the award on two different occasions (weeks of Feb. 23rd and March 9th). Chad Culpepper is the first Crusader baseball player to win this award in 2009.
The Evangel Softball team will be in action on Saturday March 21st when they open conference play at home against Mid-America Nazarene University. Game time is 1 p.m.
The Evangel Baseball team will play next at home verses conference foe William Jewell College in a four game stint beginning with a double-header on Friday at 2 p.m. and concluding with a double-header on Saturday at 2 p.m.
