After running their winning streak to a season high six games, Evangel struggled to a doubleheader split with Central Methodist on Tuesday. Evangel won the first game 3-0 in 11 innings but fell 7-0 in the second game. Evangel plays on their home field for on the second set of games this year as rain and wet grounds have forced the Crusaders to play three conference home games at Meador Park.
Evangel entered the week ranked 19th in the NAIA national poll. The Lady Crusaders entered the poll two weeks ago at 25th, then moved up to 21st last week and went up two more notches in this week’s poll. Evangel received votes but was not ranked in the pre-season poll.
Kimberly Williams will be one the starting pitchers today…She carries a personal five-game winning streak into today’s game…Williams went all 11 innings in a win at Central Methodist in her last start and struck out a season high 15: 11 inn, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 15 SO, 2 HB…She is 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA in her last three starts …Williams was the HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 23-29 going 2-0 with 0.50 ERA in two games and recording 14 strikeouts with no walks…Has 74 strikeouts against 13 walks in 61.1 innings…Evangel is 9-3 in games Williams starts…Has a career record of 50-15 (.769)…Is a senior from Loveland, Colorado.
Anna McKinny will also make a start for Evangel…She will make her 14th appearance and seventh start of the season…McKinny took a loss in her last game on Tuesday at Central Methodist: 3 inn, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO…The loss was her first of the season as a starter…She is 1-1 with a save and a 2.92 ERA in her last three games…Is 4-1 with a 2.89 ERA as a starter and is 1-1 with 1 save and a 4.50 ERA as a reliever…Has Evangel’s only save this season which came on Mar. 14 in a non-conference game against Benedictine.…Was the HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 15-22 going 2-0 in three games with no runs and one hit allowed over nine innings…Evangel is 5-1 in games she starts…Is a sophomore from New Hampton, Missouri.
Evangel was on a blazing stretch at the plate until Tuesday when they were quieted in two games by Central Methodist pitching. The Lady Crusaders did not score within seven innings in either game and were a combined 12 for 67 at the plate for a .179 batting average. Evangel had been hitting .372 as a team going into this week.
Chelsea Preaus enters today with an eight-game hitting streak. She is batting .448 over this stretch going 13 for 29 in the streak. Preaus was 3 for 7 in the two games at Central Methodist on Tuesday.
Evangel has a half-game lead in the conference over Central Methodist (4-2 in the league) going into this weekend…William Jewell is in 8th place with a 2-4 league record although two league teams, Baker and Graceland, have not played a conference game yet…The Lady Cardinals have lost seven of their last nine games…Kendra Corbin had a 13-game hitting streak snapped in game two Tuesday but is hitting .543 in her last nine games going 19 for 35 at the plate…
