Evangel moved up to 18th in the nation in the latest NAIA national poll released yesterday. The Lady Crusaders moved up one notch. Evangel was ranked 25th on March 17 and 21st on March 24. They cracked the top 20 last week at 19th. The Lady Crusaders were not ranked in the pre-season poll.
Today’s doubleheader is a match-up of teams in first and second place in the conference and both clubs have just one league loss. Evangel’s 8-1 conference record has them in first place. Missouri Valley is 5-1 and is 1.5 games behind. Both teams’ only loss in the conference has come against Central Methodist (who is 9-3 in the conference). Both teams have also won four straight.
Kimberly Williams will be one the starting pitchers today…She had a personal six game winning streak snapped as she got a no-decision in her last start on Apr. 4 at Baker: 4 inn, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO in a 11-6 Evangel win in 11 innings… Williams has not lost a start since Mar. 10, a streak covering seven starts…Has allowed just two earned runs in last five games and 32 innings…She was named HAAC Pitcher of the Week this week going 2-0 in three starts with a 0.32 ERA and recording 20 strikeouts against 3 walks in 22 innings…Williams was also the HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 23-29 going 2-0 with 0.50 ERA in two games and recording 14 strikeouts with no walks…Has 79 strikeouts against 15 walks in 82.1 innings…Evangel is 11-3 in games Williams starts…Has a career record of 49-16 (.754)…Is a senior from Loveland, Colorado.
Anna McKinny will also make a start for Evangel…She will make her 16th appearance and ninth start of the season…McKinny got the win in her last start on Saturday against Baker: 6 inn, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO in a 9-1 win…Is 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA in her last three games…Has Evangel’s only save this season which came on Mar. 14 in a non-conference game against Benedictine.…Was the HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 15-22 going 2-0 in three games with no runs and one hit allowed over nine innings…Is 5-1 as a starter with a 2.04 ERA and 1-1 with 1 save and a 4.50 ERA as a reliever…Evangel is 7-1 in games she starts…Is a sophomore from New Hampton, Missouri.
Kendra Corbin leads Evangel in hitting with a .480 average…She went 5 for 9 at the plate with 5 runs, 2 walks and a stolen base in the Baker doubleheader Saturday…Breanna Canclini has a team-leading 8 home runs and 40 RBIs…Kayla Spencer enters today’s games with a seven-game hitting streak and is batting .448 (13 for 29) in her last 10 games…Megan Cairns is 9 for 13 at the plate in her last three games and is hitting .515 (17 for 33) in her last 11 games.
