Evangel Lead In HAAC Just A Half-Game

Evangel enters a doubleheader at Benedictine today with just a half-game lead in the Heart of America conference race. They are 14-3 while Central Methodist is 14-4. The Crusaders play two games today and conclude the conference season with the resumption of a suspended game Tuesday at home against MidAmerica Nazarene. Evangel will resume play leading 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning.

Benedictine is in eighth place in the conference and is holding just a one-game lead over Baker for the final conference playoff berth.

Kimberly Williams will be one the starting pitchers today…Williams has not lost a start since Mar. 10, a streak covering 11 starts…She won her last start on Apr. 18 at Graceland: 7 inn, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO in a 6-1 Evangel win…Williams is 3-0 with a 2.21 ERA in her last three starts…Williams has won her last four straight starts… She was named HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 30-Apr. 5 going 2-0 in three starts with a 0.32 ERA and recording 20 strikeouts against 3 walks in 22 innings… Williams was also the HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 23-29 going 2-0 with 0.50 ERA in two games and recording 14 strikeouts with no walks…Has 105 strikeouts against 19 walks in 107.1 innings…Evangel is 15-3 in games Williams starts…Has a career record of 53-16 (.768)…Is a senior from Loveland, Colorado.

Anna McKinny will also make a start for Evangel… McKinny won her last start on Apr. 18 at Graceland: 5 inn, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO in a 9-4 Evangel win… Is 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA in her last three starts…Picked up a save on Mar. 14 against Benedictine…Was the HAAC Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 15-22 going 2-0 in three games with no runs and one hit allowed over  nine innings…Is 7-2 as a starter with a 2.49 ERA and 1-1 with 1 save and a 4.50 ERA as a reliever…Evangel is 9-3 in games she starts…Is a sophomore from New Hampton, Missouri.

Corbin Sets Team Runs Record

Kendra Corbin broke an Evangel record for runs scored in a single season this weekend passing the Kaylee Nelson’s (2004-08) mark of 56 set during the 2007 season. Corbin scored six runs in four games this weekend and has 59 runs scored so far this season. Corbin also enters today’s doubleheader with a 12-game hitting streak. She went 7 for 16 in four games last weekend while hitting two home runs, picking up 3 RBIs and scoring six times. Corbin is hitting .494 in her last 20 games going 41 for 83 at the plate during that span. Her longest hitting streak of the season is a 14-game streak Mar. 5-31.

Quick Hits

Breanna Canclini had her third multi-home run game of the season Saturday when she homered twice in game one of a DH at Graceland…Jazzy Lopez has a seven-game hitting streak and is batting .403 (25 for 62) in her last 18 games…This is the final week of the regular season as the HAAC Playoffs begin Friday in the opening games of a best-of-three quarterfinals series. The Lady Crusaders have clinched a first round home series.
