Softball falls in series to Missouri Valley

Springfield, Mo. — Missouri Valley took the first game of a three game series from Evangel winning 2-1.

Starting pitcher Tatum Hathcock (17-10) outdueled Evangel starter Kimberly Williams as she went 7 innings allowing six hits, one run with no walks and six strikeouts. Williams worked all 7 innings allowing six hits, two runs, no walks with five strikeouts. It was Williams’ first loss since March 10.

Evangel got their lone run in the first inning on an RBI hit by Misty Robbins that scored Jazzy Lopez. Evangel ended the first inning leaving the bases loaded.

Missouri Valley scored a run the second and took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single by Wendy Garcia.

Kendra Corbin had three of Evangel’s six hits in the game.

Springfield, Mo. — Fourth seeded Missouri Valley completed a stunning 2-0 series sweep of Evangel in the Heart of America conference semifinals with a 4-2 win at Evangel in Game Two of the series.

Evangel posted a run the first and the second inning, but Missouri Valley responded with a three-run second inning that was the difference in the game. Janeau Borrego plated two runs on an RBI single followed by an RBI double by Heather Sliger.

Janie Jungerman (10-8) got the win in a complete game as she allowed seven hits, two runs with no walks and three strikeouts.

Missouri Valley (31-20) advanced the to the conference finals to play either Central Methodist or Lindenwood. Evangel finished with a record of 34-13.
