Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University women’s basketball signed junior college transfer Laura Castleberry today. Castleberry, a 6-4 center from McLennan (Texas) Community College is the seventh addition to the Lady Crusaders signing class of 2009-10.
Castleberry averaged 3 points per game in her two year career at the junior college level and played in all 31 games for McLennan in her freshman season while seeing action in 23 games last year.
“Laura will add a valuable presence inside,” said Evangel head coach Leon Neal. “We are excited to have a player with Laura’s size and ability on our team for the next two years.
Castleberry was an all-conference performer as a high school player at Collinsville High School in Oklahoma. She averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds per game during her senior season.
Evangel has now signed seven new players for the upcoming season as they defend their regular season Heart of America conference championship. In addition Castleberry, Evangel has added: Chloe Farmer (6-1, C, Oklahoma City Storm Home School H.S.), Jay-J Van Buran (5-8, G, Branson H.S.), Jayme Chapman (5-10, F, Jefferson City H.S.), Jessica Rumfelt (6-0, F, Bolivar H.S.), Jessica Pickett (5-8, G, Springfield – Kickapoo H.S.), and Lacey Luttrull (6-0, F, Hurst, Texas / Missouri St.-West Plains).
