SoftballSince head coach Jerry Breaux took over the program in 1994, the Evangel softball team has won eight Heart of America Athletic Conference championships (2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1999, 1997, 1996), including four HAAC titles in a row, and has registered 12 seasons with 20 or more wins, six campaigns with 30 or more victories (2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1999) and the 2005 squad won a school record 44 games (44-17). In addition, six teams have been nationally ranked – 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000. Coach Breaux has won five conference coach-of-the-year honors (2007, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1997) and he tutored the program’s five all-America selections, Summer Kimble (NAIA and NFCA 1st team 2001, NAIA 2nd team 1999), Amy Hiatte (NFCA h.m. team, 2002), Jami Potter (NAIA 2nd team 2005), Kim Waltz (NAIA 2 nd team 2006), and Kimberly Williams (NAIA h.m. 2006.) Seventy-six athletes have won all-conference laurels (37 1st team) under Breaux’ guidance and his players have also excelled in the classroom. The Lady Crusaders finished eighth on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s (NFCA) NAIA All-Academic Teams list in 2006, were third in 2005, ninth in 2003, second in 2002, and fourth in 1999. Breaux has won 688 games in his coaching career and is 368-257 at Evangel. On Dec. 6, 2004, Breaux was presented with the NFCA’s Easton Victory Club award during a special luncheon in Las Vegas, Nevada, to mark his 600-plus career wins.
