EU24 was a blast! I mean, what could be better than seeing Superchick, KJ52, Disciple and many more and being EXCUSED from school because it is considered a “college visit.” Yay! I mean, don’t get me wrong, just the shear enjoyment of being able to come to a University such as Evangel and experience God is awesome enough. You should check out the pictures and see how much fun you missed out. I promise that if you were to personally call all 909 visitors, you will only hear what an amazing weekend it was.  Don’t miss it next year!

However, even if you are unable to attend this magnificent event, you should defiantly try to come and see us! We would love to sit down and talk with ya. Least you forget that it wasn’t too long ago we all were sitting where you are right now: making the big college decision. I should be back before school ends (which is in 3 weeks fyi!!!!), but if not have an awesome summer!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and the picture below is of three awesome students that I had the pleasure of hanging out with that weekend! They are awesome! Future crusaders J

TAH for now!

This weekend I had the awesome opportunity to travel to Bolivar (about 30 minutes from EU) for a Forensics tournament. First of all, this isn’t the forensics you are probably thinking about. It has nothing to do with criminal justice or anything to do with science for that matter. It’s, in essence, a speech tournament. You have ten minutes to perform a piece in front of judges who then judge you on how well you performed. Ok, so maybe it is a bit more complicated then that, but non-the-less, it is both nerve-raking and exciting. I did a duo with my friend Holly who is also in the group. Although we didn’t get first, our team as a whole did well in the tournament. It was fun to be able to get away from Springfield for the day and for it to be on Evangel’s “tab”!! J I don’t know when the next tournament is, so I will write more later… oh, and I will try to decorate “my page” with a few pictures here soon… Hope your all coming to EU24! It’s going to be a blast! Until next time…

Another chilly day in Springfield, Missouri. Although I cannot truthfully say I mind. I love the winter weather. And, nothing beats waking up to find the ground covered with a plethora of snow. Now, I cannot say that everyone loves this weather as much as I do. Once reaching class on days such as today (face bright red from the cold wind) its always fun to see half your classmates bundled in layer upon layer with their earmuffs and scarves on that their mother made them for Christmas. What about the other half? The other half is too scared to even arise from their slumber, let alone walk outside. I guess being from Ohio I had the advantage of growing accustomed to the randomness of the weather, especially cold weather. Amidst loving the cold, I must say that I am ready to play outside without the fear of getting frostbitten. Just the other day the sun was out and it seemed as though 60% of Evangel students were taking advantage of their one opportunity to wear shorts and a t-shirt, get “tan”, and work on their football skills. The weather man said it should warm up soon… but, no one ever really knows what to expect… that’s all for now. Until next time. Enjoy your weekend!

Summer, Summer, Summer time!!!!!!!!!!! (yes, I am singing the song if you know it). Wow. One and a half months into the summer, and it feels like I have been away from Evangel University (EU) for an eternity!

Summers are supposed to be about rest, enjoyment, laughter, vacations... right? Although most of these things have been, at some point, worked into my summer, I must admit that this summer has been one of the hardest of my life.

As I think back to last summer, I remember having this indescribable joy about being home. Although work always has been a main factor in my summer journey, I didn’t care because I was back to my comfort zone; I was back with my friends whom I had "deserted" to go to school so far away.

But, it’s weird, because as I sit here now I realize that although it is nice to see my "Ohio friends" there is a void in my life that only Evangel/my Evangel friends can fill. When, in the past 2 years, you have spent about 16 out of 24 months in a certain place, when you leave there really is something missing.

I am ready to go back to school. Yes, I know, I said it.... let me repeat myself so you know you read it right... I AM READY TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL! haha. I, of course, will enjoy these last two months at home enjoying my "break". But, when August 20th rolls around my bags will be a'packin!

Hope you all are having amazing summers! If you are planning on coming to EU in the fall, I can’t wait to meet you :) Until then... I am out!

It’s the end. Yes, as weird as that sounds, we are now coming to the final days of the spring semester. If you ask me if I am ready… I will tell you I have no idea. As always, the busyness of school and trying to fit in as much social time as I can has made this semester fly by. It really does seem like just yesterday when I was packing all my stuff in my Ohio home and anxiously awaiting the college experience. Now, I am standing at the end of my sophomore year and I am amazed.

Two years down. Two years to go.

This summer will be very typical for me; I will be driving home and starting my job right away. Most of the summer will consist of this and of course will bring a few extra hours of sleep a night to make up for the lack of hours during the school year. I am excited to go home and see everyone and get my “vacation” away from the stress of school, but I am also saddened by the reality that my friends here (my Evangel family) will be missed very much. To all you high school seniors out there: GET READY. The next step of your life may be scary, but I promise it is one that will take you on the most joyous roller coaster rides you have ever been on. To everyone else: have an amazing summer break! Live a little, and always remember to thank God for everyone around you. Peace out…and see you next year :)

Spring Fling is always something we Evangel students look forward to. It’s a time when, for once, the girls ask the guys that are appealing to their eye (or that they are good friends with) to be their date. Each year there is a theme, and each year you and your “significant other” dress according to that theme. This year the theme was “TV Land.” With this theme came the opportunity to dress as anyone on television. Everything from Pebbles and Bam Bam to characters on Three’s Company to The Bachelor with his 6 final girls, were represented on this night.

Although I did not choose to ask anyone, I am a living testimony to all those girls out there who think that they need a guy to have fun. Hold on to your hats, because I had a blast! A bunch of us actually went in a big group and ended up having more fun than I could have imagined. The humor was high and the bands were on key. Even one of my good friends who came with us graced us with her presence onstage in a very hilarious “Ode to the Clock tower.”

It was fun looking at everyone’s outfits and even a bit surprising at how much people could pull off. Three of my good girl friends went with their boyfriends and dressed as “Beauty and the Geek”… it was surprising what people were able to pull off! Take a look at the guys! Spring Fling is just one of the great annual activities we as students have to look forward to. It is one where a lot of memories are made and a lot of talents are revealed :)

Crusader Days! Crusader Days! Read all about it!

We all have heard of it or been involved with it… right? Come on… if you are a student here you know you have seen a plethora of students that look a little lost all huddled together asking where the chapel is. Or, maybe you are on the other end of things. You were that student standing underneath the clock tower wondering if you were staring at ABI or ABII. Either way, it had to be Crusader Days. If you don’t know about this incredible opportunity, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

March 15th-16th marked our Spring Crusader Days, and it was definitely not without fun times and new faces. I, as a student, and also as someone who works in admissions always have the pleasure to be more involved than most. Between working with registration, taking students to class and giving tours, I am able to meet a wide variety of people all with a common interest: My home… Evangel University. This year, however, I got a lucky bonus when I got to house two of the guests. We were able to sit in on Evangel University’s production of My Fair Lady, watch an exciting and very intense game of dodgeball and were even able to take a little tour around Springfield, stopping at a local coffee shop for a little refreshment. All-in-all it was a lot of fun. Two simple days, too many memories to count.

Although not everyone is called to attend Evangel, the opportunity to come and visit is something that I believe everyone who is even slightly interested should take advantage of. Never hinder God’s plan because you just don’t “feel” it is right. Come see what God has to offer. You may be surprised and even blessed by the result. Although my two girls may not attend Evangel, they were a blessing in my life within the two short days they were here. More importantly, they took their uncertainties about the future and utilized their opportunities to open up the doors God has for them. Let God open your doors! Let Him surprise you with new blessings. Let the opportunities that are available for you as future college students direct you into the life He has for you. You won’t regret it.

February 2007

Comfort zones. We all have them. We all know what it is like to be thrown out of them into the unknown and not really know what to do. It’s one of the scariest times in our lives, but it can also be one of the most growing experiences.

So there I was, a senior in high school and loving every minute of it. I had my family close by, my friends at arms length and the future staring me right in the face. As I look back to that time two years ago, I remember lying in bed begging God not to call me to the unknown. Begging Him not to drag me out of the comfort zone and life I loved so much to this place so far away (aka: Evangel). After all, I was having a blast right where I was! My life made sense. But, it was at that time in my life when God wanted more from and for me. I chose to come to Evangel after much “fighting” with God, and everyday I thank God for the amazing journey he has brought me on. It was in that time when I completely surrendered to God and allowed Him to take me where I didn’t want to go when He was able to bless me beyond my wildest imagination.

I am currently a sophomore here at Evangel, and life is good. Part of me is scared of the next “unknown” that God has in store for me, but knowing that I have Him by my side eases all my fears and allows me to truly trust in the one who has never let me down. Never forget that there is joy in suffering, that there is peace in the power of prayer and, most of all, there is blessing through surrender and devotion. Let go, and seriously, just let God.
