Evangel is a private, coeducational Christian university with the highest level of accreditation available and offers more than 100 programs in 10 academic departments. Evangel University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition to this institutional accreditation, several academic departments of the University maintain prestigious national professional accreditation, including the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education; the National Association of Schools of Music; and the Council on Social Work Education. Is Evangel affiliated with a particular church denomination?
Yes, Evangel is the Assemblies of God national university of the arts, sciences and professions. About 75% of Evangel students have an Assemblies of God church background, but individuals from all Christian denominations are welcome to enroll here. The Assemblies of God denomination is headquartered in our hometown of Springfield, Mo.
How many students attend Evangel?
Approximately 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students attend Evangel. Our students come from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries. More than 60% of Evangel students come from outside Missouri. Also, about 75% of Evangel students live on campus.
Would I feel comfortable at Evangel as a commuter student?
Yes, Evangel University is pleased to serve hundreds of students, living at home in the Springfield area, who are enrolled for classes and are earning degrees on our campus. In fact, about one-fourth of our student population consists of commuter students. A commuter director focuses our efforts to make services available to commuter students, identify and accommodate their unique needs, and encourage their incorporation into the campus life of Evangel University. I've already been accepted to Evangel. When do I sign up for classes?
Students who have their housing form and $200 enrollment deposit in by June 30 are eligible for Early Advising for the fall semester. These students will be contacted by an advisor from their department to begin a class schedule. Students not eligible for Early Advising, can register during New Student Orientation week after the official move-in date.
When can students move into the residence halls, and when do classes start?
New students are allowed to move in at 8 a.m. on the Friday prior to fall semester registration. Classes start on the Wednesday after move-in. Will I get to know my professors at Evangel?
At Evangel the student/teacher ratio is 17:1, and the average class size is 25. Freshmen classes are taught by professors, not by student assistants, as is often the case in larger universities. Your individual needs get plenty of attention at Evangel.

Can I prepare for full-time Christian ministry at Evangel?
Yes. Our degree in Biblical Studies satisfies all educational requirements for licensing and ordination with the Assemblies of God. Our program is best described as a "pre-seminary" program (emphasizing biblical studies, theological studies, biblical language studies, and other related subjects), rather than a traditional pastoral training program. What is different about preparing for ministry at Evangel, as opposed to a Bible college?
At Evangel you have the opportunity to take an additional major or minor in a related area of study (such as business management, social work, counseling, or communication) that could enhance your ministry. Also, at Evangel you will be interacting daily with other students who may become lay leaders in the church you will be serving in the future.
What classes do I need to take in high school in order to qualify for admission to Evangel?
The recommended distribution of high school work is as follows: three units of English, two units of mathematics, two units of social science, and one unit of laboratory science. Academically, a student must graduate from high school with a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better in college preparatory courses. Learn more about our admissions requirements.
What are the admissions requirements for home schoolers?
Evangel University recognizes the quality education provided by home school associations and welcomes applicants from home schools. Applicants from home schools must provide a home school transcript and submit the same documents required of all other applicants: a pastoral reference, an academic reference, an ACT or SAT report, a completed application form, and the application fee. Does Evangel work with students who participate in the Master's Commission program?

In what varsity sports does Evangel compete?
Evangel has intercollegiate sports teams for men in football, basketball, baseball, track & field, cross country, golf, and cheerleading. Sports teams for women include volleyball, basketball, softball, track & field, cross country, tennis, golf, and cheerleading. There is also club level, co-ed soccer.

Is there a campus curfew at Evangel?
Yes. The purpose of curfew is to provide students with a residence hall environment that is conducive to study and rest. By observing quiet hours (beginning at 10 p.m.) and curfew, students demonstrate consideration toward their suite mates and other residents in their halls. Evangel's curfew for residence hall students is as follows: midnight on Sunday through Thursday; 2 a.m. on Friday (Saturday morning); and 1 a.m. on Saturday (Sunday morning). Juniors and seniors as well as all students age 21 and over who maintain a GPA above a 2.5 are exempt from curfew.
Does Evangel have a dress code?
Yes. Evangel's dress code is based on the principles of moderation, modesty, neatness/hygiene, and good taste. For specific details, please reference the Student Handbook.
Does Evangel offer visit days so I can come check out the campus?
Yes. We encourage prospective students to come "check us out" during Crusader Days scheduled in March or to come for a more individualized visit as a part of our Evangel Bed and Breakfast Program, offered on most Fridays throughout the year. It is wise to consider the "bottom line" cost after financial assistance has been calculated and applied, which will give you a more realistic picture If you are comparing two or more universities on the basis of cost. Many times students find that after financial aid has been factored into the equation, the cost of a private, Christian university education at Evangel is not much different from that of state universities in some parts of the country. Evangel uses the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to determine need eligibility. Keep in mind that approximately 90% of Evangel students receive some form of financial aid — grants, scholarships, work-study employment, and/or subsidized loans — as determined by the student's eligibility based on completion of the FAFSA. Does Evangel offer any additional financial aid for missionaries or pastors and their dependents?
Yes. Evangel offers 50% off tuition for nationally appointed Assemblies of God U.S. and world missionaries and their dependents. Assemblies of God pastors and their dependents are offered a 10% tuition grant based on need.
Are church and chapel services required?
The development of students’ spiritually is an important aspect of the Evangel educational experience as we seek to integrate faith, learning, and living. Therefore, students are required to attend university chapel services three days per week and are expected to regularly attend and participate in a local church of their choice.
What kinds of ministry and church service opportunities does Evangel offer?
Through CROSSwalk, Evangel's student-led ministries program, students can participate in a great variety of Christian service opportunities. These include drama and human video teams, musical outreach teams, children's outreach teams, Spring Break missions trips, street witnessing and special community ministry events such as Make a Difference Day, Spring Break-Out, and Day of Hope. Student discipleship leaders coordinate residence hall praise and worship and floor devotions weekly. In addition, many Evangel students are involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes outreach groups in the area.

What kind of computer should I bring to Evangel? Is it required?
It is helpful and recommended — but not required — for students to bring a personal computer to campus. Eight main computer labs are available to all students across campus. The art and communications departments each have a lab with Macintosh computers. Six smaller computer labs are located in the residence halls and are open 24 hours per day. In addition, each residence hall room is wired to connect students' personal computers to the campus computing network, which provides free Internet access. Am I allowed to have a car on campus even though I am a freshman?
Yes, freshmen are allowed to have automobiles on campus if they are properly registered with the Evangel University Security Department. However, having a vehicle on campus is not necessary. Essential services are provided on campus or within walking distance. City bus service is located conveniently near campus and students frequently car pool to church, shopping centers, and entertainment destinations.
