Graduate Studies
General Admissions Policy
General admission and degree requirements for graduate studies are determined by the Graduate Studies Council. Careful consideration is given to all applicants. Students should address each of the items outlined below.
Procedure
A student seeking admission to graduate studies must submit the following to Graduate Admissions Office:
- The completed application online
- Nonrefundable application fee of $25
- 3 letters of recommendation (pdf)*
- One pastor or church leader reference
- One academic or personal reference
- One professional (supervisor or co-worker) reference
- Note: You can issue your references through your online application via the references link.
*Refer to catalog for specific requirement regarding where the letters should be sent.
- Statement of Purpose (pdf) describing+:
- Your professional and academic experiences which are relevant to the field of study you have chosen
- Your objective for pursuing this graduate program and career aspirations
- Your current spiritual growth and church involvement

- Résumé outlining experiences relevant to desired program.
- Required Entrance Exam (GRE/MAT/Praxis II)
- Program Specific Requirements
- Psychology: submit an APA writing sample from undergraduate coursework.
- School Counseling: submit two copies of each official college transcript.

Admissions

Education Admission Requirements
In addition to general admission policies, the Education program requires the following:
- Praxis II scores
- Secondary Teaching: submit two copies of each official college transcript.
MOL Admission Requirements
Admission to the Organizational Leadership program is based upon the congruence of the student and his/her experience with the goals of the organizational leadership program. In addition to general admission requirements, decisions regarding admission are based upon the following*:
- Acceptable GRE scores on the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections.
- Résumé demonstrating leadership responsibility
* Special admission is possible for students not meeting designated admission standards if the combination of qualifying criteria suggests the probability of success in the program is high.
Psychology Program Admission Requirements
In addition to general admission policies, the Psychology program requires the following:
- Three letters of reference are required. One recommendation should be completed by a pastor or someone who can comment on your spiritual character. Two references are preferred from undergraduate faculty, when possible. Additional references can be completed by a supervisor who can evaluate your potential to succeed in graduate studies in psychology.
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 in all psychology courses and in the last 60 credit hours of course work
- Acceptable GRE scores on the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections.
- Academic writing proficiency in APA style, as demonstrated by submission of undergrad paper.
- 21 credit hours of undergraduate psychology courses are required of Psychology applicants and must include a statistics course and research methods course. Other courses should be from among the following areas of study
- Introduction to Psychology
- Social Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Experimental Psychology
- Psychology of Learning
- Abnormal Psychology
- Psychology of Testing
- Theories and Techniques of Counseling
- Industrial/Organizational Psychology
- Cognitive Psychology
School Counseling Admission Requirements
In addition to general admission policies, the School Counseling program requires the following:
- The Miller’s Analogies Test is the preferred entrance exam for School Counseling but the GRE may be substituted for the MAT.
- Acceptable GRE scores on the verbal, quantitative and analytical sections.
Advancement to Candidacy Status
Students admitted to a program of study must apply for candidacy after completion of 15 credit hours of graduate course work at Evangel University. Requirements for program candidacy are given in the graduate studies catalog.
Graduate Transfer Credit
With approval of the Graduate Studies Council, a student may transfer a maximum of 10 credits required in the student's program from another accredited institution.
Special Student Admission
Students who do not wish to work toward a graduate degree, but seek to take graduate courses at Evangel University, may enter as a non-degree seeking student. If they choose to pursue a degree later, not more than 12 credits taken as a non-degree seeking student may be applied to the student's degree requirements.
Time Limits
All degree requirements must be completed within five years from the date of admission. A student who interrupts the sequence of study may be subject to changes in requirements when returning. Transfer credits must comply with the five-year statute of limitations.
