- Nice Geography Sites This is an extensive, academic, alphabetical list of sites collected by the faculty (Faculteit Ruimtelijke Wetenschappen Globis) of the Universiteit Utrecht and has thousands of links.
- Geosource is maintained by the Universiteit Utrecht library and is the "Web Resources for Human geography, Physical geography, Planning, Geoscience and Environmental science"
- GeoResources "the UK's Number One geography portal... Free geography resources and good quality links."
- UC Berkeley Digital Library Guide to GIS Resources on the Internet
- Federal Geographic Data Committee coordinates the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. This provides a portal to geographic data shared by the agencies.
Government
- Consumer.gov provides links to federal information resources arranged by categories.
- The Council of State Governments has a meta directory of links to all state governments that have a web presence at Govspot.com
- FEDSTATS is a portal to statistics available from over 100 federal agencies.
- Fed World.gov is a directory and central access point to search engines seeking government information.
- FirstGov is "connecting the world to all U.S. Government information and services."
- FirstGov's State & Local Gateway is a portal developed to give state and local government officials access to federal information.
- GPO Access provides free electronic access to information products produced by the federal government printing office.

- U.S. Blue Pages is a directory of government agencies and federal services.
Law
- WWW Virtual Library - Law is maintained by the Indiana University School of Law. The Virtual Law Library tries to cover law on the web. It has its own search engine for terms, topics, or information sources. It also provides "Other Search Tools and Comprehensive Sites."
- Internet Public Library Law Resources links have been selected by librarians.
- Legal Research Links provides online law reference and research tools linked to the University of Georgia Alexander Campbell King Law Library on the Law School web site.
- FindLaw is a commercial directory of links to law research tools arranged by broad categories.
- FedLaw is for people doing Federal law research. However, it is not limited to federal law related research sites

- Biography.com Commercial site based on the magazine, but has good information on people, including those born on today.
- Social Science Information Gateway is a catalog of "thousands of high quality Internet resources relevant to social science education and research; business and law. It is assembled at the University of Sussex.

- Country Analysis Briefs Specifically geared toward the energy consumption and trends of various countries, this site from the Energy Information Administration has a wealth of information.
- Governments on the WWW is a comprehensive database of governmental institutions at all levels worldwide from 220 countries and territories.
- International Information Programs From the US. Department of State this site has a section on regional information listing country related issues and policies.
- Portals to the World Put together by the Library of Congress this is an excellent first stop for finding country information.
- United Nations documentation: research guide The reviewer considers this, "the UN library's superb 'ready reference' Internet database...this highly useful vade mecum..."
