Springfield, Mo. — Dr. David Stair, director of athletics at Evangel University, was elected secretary of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics at the NACDA’s 41st Annual Convention, held June 20-23 in New Orleans, La. He was elected to a five-year term.
Stair has been employed at Evangel University since 1976 and has served as its athletic director since 1982. Under his administration, the men’s basketball team captured the 2002 NAIA-II National Championship.
Also during Stair’s tenure at Evangel, he coached the women’s basketball team for five seasons, 1979-84, and the women’s tennis team for six years, 1977-82. Highlights of his coaching career include Evangel’s first national ranking in any sport, No. 17 in basketball 1979-80; the selection of the school’s first female All-America player, Tracy Zinn in 1981; and two state championships for tennis in 1980 and 1981.
In April 2006, Stair was inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame at the annual convention in San Diego, as well as into the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame.
Stair holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from State University of New York-Cortland and a doctorate from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
