Award stories by Teresa (Bilyeu ’84) DeVries
A typical day in the life of Dr. Marc McCorcle may start with surgery in the morning, followed by office visits in the afternoon, and of course, those sporadic interruptions throughout the day (or night) to deliver babies. Since 1981, Marc has been in private practice at Primrose OB/GYN in Springfield, Mo.
After graduating from Evangel with a bachelor’s in biology in 1973, Marc attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he graduated from the School of Medicine in 1977. Following a four-year residency at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., he began his private practice.
As a leader in the local medical community, Marc performed the first laparoscopic-assisted hysterectomy in the four-state area in June 1991, providing patients a safer procedure and shorter recovery time.
He currently serves as the volunteer medical director of the Pregnancy Care Center of Springfield and is chairman of the Board of Intermed Insurance Company, a professional liability company with parent ownership by FIPIC of Florida.
A longtime supporter of Evangel, Marc feels that the education he received is as good as one could receive anywhere.
“One of the advantages at Evangel is the smaller class size which leads to a greater depth of interaction and quality learning,” he said. “I especially enjoyed the ability to meet people from across the nation, allowing me to be exposed to a variety of cultures. My network of friendships has lasted for decades.”
Marc is a former president of the Alumni Association, and he served on the University’s Board of Directors for 15 years, including one year as chairman.
His wife, Brenda, is on the board of Evangel’s Family & Friends. Their oldest daughter, Christa, graduated from Evangel in 2001, and daughters Louisa and Megan are currently enrolled. They also have one son, Matt.
