Springfield , Mo. — Evangel University anticipates 500 freshmen and transfer students will arrive on campus when residence halls open at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
The new students will represent 46 states and 19 foreign countries, including: Belgium, Germany, Spain, Bolivia, El Salvador, Kenya, South Africa, Japan, China and Hong-Kong.
Classes at Evangel will begin next Thursday, August 31.
“Factoring in graduate studies and other adult education programs, our total enrollment should once again be in the 2,000 student range,” said Paul K. Logsdon, spokesman for the University.
This fall, Evangel has added majors in environmental science and in recreation to its catalog. In addition, it has added minors in leadership and in human resource management.
The environmental science major is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to prepare for professional work in areas relating to the environment, conservation or field research. Students in this program take a broad mix of classes in the life and physical sciences. This major provides students with a large amount of field and laboratory work.
The Recreation major is an extension of Evangel’s physical education program, with emphasis on leadership methods in recreation programs on the state or local level, in industry, in schools, and in churches. A key focus is on the organization and administration of recreation programs for individuals with special needs.
Evangel was founded in 1955 as the national Assemblies of God college of arts, sciences and professions. There are currently more than 80 academic programs offered at the undergraduate level, along with eight master’s degree programs.
