Springfield, Mo. — Evangel faculty and staff have volunteered to bake 3,500 cookies to distribute to students Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union lobby.

The cookie distribution is an annual event aimed at helping homesick students. According to Brian Upton, director of the University’s Counseling Center, there are always a number of students who struggle with homesickness early in the semester.

However, “It is more than just addressing homesickness,” Upton said. “We are acknowledging that there is no place like home, while doing everything we can to help the students adjust to college life.”

Besides getting free baked goods, students can write on or read the “Yellow Brick Wall,” a collage of pieces of yellow paper that students write on about what they love at Evangel.

Students can also register for prizes and pick up homesickness brochures.

Nearly 2,000 students are enrolled at Evangel this year, and more than 500 are freshmen and transfer students.
