World renowned saxophonists lecture and perform

Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University’s Music Department will be hosting world renowned saxophonists Jean-Marie Londeix and William Street in a series of lectures and masterclasses on Sept. 20 and 21 in the Barnett Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

In addition, on Thursday evening at 7:30, pianist Roger Admiral will join Street to perform a recital.

Admission is free and all events are open to the public.

Londeix will be presenting two lectures in his native French language, with Street translating: “The Saxophone in Twentieth Century Music” Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and “The History of Music Notation” Thursday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

They will also be conducting a masterclass for saxophone students on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Evangel is one of a few select stops in Londeix’s final tour of the United States, including the Berklee School of Music (Boston) and the New England Conservatory of Music.

According to Matthew Warner, assistant professor of music at Evangel, “Londeix is perhaps the best-known and most respected classical saxophone performer and teacher in the world.” He is saxophone professor at the Bordeaux Conservatory (France) and has performed in more than 600 concerts all over the world. He has 13 LPs and six CDs to his credit and has authored numerous pedagogical works for saxophone, as well as books on the history of the saxophone.

Street and Admiral both teach at the University of Alberta (Canada). Street is a former student of Londeix and has conducted and performed with orchestras and bands in Europe, Central and North America and Asia. Admiral is an international recitalist and concert pianist.
