SPRINGFIELD, MO. — Evangel will conduct a dedication ceremony for its newest addition, a 75-foot clock tower, on Friday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m., immediately following the chapel service. The ceremony will take place around the tower, located at the intersection of the main east-west and north-south sidewalks on campus.
During the ceremony, a time capsule containing pieces of Evangel’s history will be placed in the cornerstone of the tower, which is engraved with 2006. The capsule, which will not be opened until 2055 during Evangel’s 100th Anniversary celebration, will contain copies of The Lance, Evangel’s student newspaper; and the Excalibur, the yearbook; along with DVDs containing photos, videos and music selections from Evangel’s music groups. Also included will be a student essay describing what Evangel might be like in 50 years.
The tower’s electronic carillon will be heard for the first time on campus during the ceremony. Two hundred helium-filled balloons will be released as a part of the celebration.
“The clock tower is intended to be a witness and testimony of God’s faithfulness for the past 50 years,” Jim Williams, vice president for institutional advancement, said.
The tower was designed by Sapp Design Associates. The Walton Construction Company is currently in the finishing stages of building the tower.
