The Evangel volleyball team will swing back into action on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in a home match against Missouri Valley College. The Heart of America Athletic Conference match will begin at 7 p.m. in Ashcroft Center. The junior varsity match will precede the varsity match and begin at 5:30.
Evangel (17-12, 2-3) and Missouri Valley (4-13, 2-5) met in the conference’s preseason tournament on Aug. 26 and Missouri Valley won a hard-fought match 3-1 (28-30, 31-29, 30-15, 32-30).
Senior Brittni Harris leads the EU women. The 6-foot middle blocker set a new Evangel volleyball record for career kills in the Lindenwood University Tournament on Oct. 6-7. She now has 1,606 kills to move past Kelly Hartley-Richardson, who totaled 1,593 (2001-03).
Harris, who hails from Delray Beach, Florida, set the record with her first kill in the third game (12 total) against the University of Illinois at Springfield on Oct. 7. Harris added to her record against William Woods University ( Mo.) in the Lady Crusaders’ final match of the tournament with 11 more kills. Both games resulted in 3-0 Evangel wins.
Following tomorrow night’s home match against Missouri Valley, the Evangel volleyballers will travel to Lamoni, Iowa, to face conference opponent Graceland University on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for Oct. 10 at Graceland, however, internal team problems forced the Yellowjackets to postpone the match. The junior varsity matches will be made up on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Graceland. Starting times for the JV matches will be announced at a later date.
Evangel will stay on the road to play at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri on Friday, Oct. 20. The matches are scheduled to begin at 5:30 (junior varsity) and 7 p.m. (varsity).
