Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University Chorale and String Ensemble will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Barnett Recital Hall.
Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The Chorale, directed by Dr. Richard Honea and accompanied by Dr. Linda Ligate, will perform selections from the Geistliche Chormusik by the 20th century German composer Hugo Distler.
“Distler is recognized as one of the outstanding sacred music composers of the last century and his music is both haunting and challenging,” Honea said.
The Chorale will also perform “In Silent Night” by Mitchell Southall, a 20th century African-American composer best known for his unique spirituals.
The String Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Larry Dissmore, will perform Edward Elgar’s “Serenade for Strings.”
Elgar, whose works include “Pomp and Circumstance,” completed “Serenade for Strings” in 1892 as a gift to his wife on their third wedding anniversary. There are three short movements arranged such that the last movement ends with a reprise of the first.
