Katie HelwigSpringfield, Mo. — Evangel University senior Katie Helwig spent three months this summer working in an internship at the world-renown high fashion enterprise Escada.

She is a management major from Hollister, Mo.

Desiring to enhance her resume, which included four years of visual merchandising for Banana Republic, Helwig searched online for internship opportunities from October 2005 until April 2006. She was one of two visual merchandising interns selected by Escada out of thousands of applicants.

Helwig's work as an intern included setting up and arranging visuals in storefronts, as well as working with Excel in accounting. She was able to attend Escada events such as fashion shows and buyer showings in the high fashion industry.

While in New York City, she worked with other interns from Georgetown, Harvard, Yale and Indiana University.

Helwig will be returning to New York City in December to help create visuals for Escada for the holiday season.

As a result of her internship, she anticipates opportunities to interview with companies such as Dolce & Gabbana, Bergdorf Goodman and Ralph Lauren when she completes her degree this year.

Helwig said, “My heart lies in visual merchandising. The internship has been a huge learning experience! I hope that my internship opens doors for other Evangel students interested in fashion business.”
