Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University Phi Beta Lambda/Students in Free Enterprise team and two advisers traveled to Denver, Colo., Nov. 2-5, to attend the National PBL Leadership Conference.

While in Denver, they received a “behind-the-scenes” manager’s view of Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium, home of the Denver Broncos. The tour included access to box suites, locker rooms, pressrooms, and Invesco’s elite grass field.

They also toured Xcel Energy, a combination electricity and natural gas company that provides energy to eight Western and Midwestern states. “This is the cutting edge of utility technology,” said Elizabeth Fletcher, team adviser. “Evangel alumna Sandy (Rom) Simon is manager in the Program Management Office at Xcel Energy, and she gave us an awesome overview of the state-of-the-energy industry.” The students also toured their corporate office museum.

In addition, they traveled to Colorado Springs for a VIP tour of Dr. James Dobson’s Focus on the Family ministries.

At the National Fall PBL Leadership Conference, the group attended various workshops and events and had the opportunity to hear keynote speakers Ephren Taylor and Bill Cordes.

Taylor became CEO of City Capital Corporation when he was 23, making him the youngest African-American CEO of any public company.

Cordes is a speaker, consultant and author of The YOGOWYPI Factor, and has co-authored Teen Power Too, Teen Empower, Teen Power and Beyond and Lead Now or Step Aside.

The PBL/SIFE advisers that attended were Elizabeth Fletcher, business and economics department chair, and Saundra Ohern, assistant professor of accounting.
