Evangel will get its 2006-07 Heart of America Athletic Conference season started when it hosts Central Methodist on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 5:30 p.m. in Ashcroft Center.

MidAmerica Nazarene is idle
The Lady Crusaders are 0-2 after dropping their season opener, 73-53, on Nov. 7 to No. 5-ranked (NAIA II) College of the Ozarks and then losing, 69-53, to No. 26-ranked (NAIA I) Southern Nazarene on Nov. 9. Both games were at home.
In their last game, the EU women’s 69-53 loss to visiting Southern Nazarene on Nov. 9, EU led 30-22 at the half. The Crimson Storm, however, out-scored Evangel 47-23 in the second half to win by 13 points. Almost the same scenario was played out versus College of the Ozarks. Evangel was down by only two at the half, 30-28, but the Lady Bobcats came roaring back in the second half and out-scored EU 43-25 to win by 20 points.
Brianna Mingus and Rachel Damanskis led EU’s scoring versus Southern Nazarene with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Amy Sczcepanik had a career-best 11 rebounds. Her previous high was eight against MidAmerica Nazarene last season.
The Lady Eagles logged their first win of the season at Park University on Nov. 7, winning 79-62. Central Methodist is now 1-3. CMU dropped its first three, losing 88-78 at home to Hannibal-LaGrange and then lost by two points in both games at the St. Ambrose Classic in Davenport, Iowa. Cardinal Stritch defeated CMU 60-58 on Nov. 3 and Trinity International took a 64-62 win over CMU. Central Methodist will have taken nine days off before playing at Evangel on Nov. 16.
Five Lady Eagles scored in double figures to lead CMU to its 79-62 win at Park on Nov. 7. Trisha Lyons led the group with 19 points. Katie Dove had 16 points. Denielle Broaz and Lauren Fruits each scored 12 points and Holly Wade came off the bench to score 10 points. Dove had a double-double, getting 10 rebounds to go with her 16 points. CMU made 60.4 percent of its field goals and limited Park to 32.8 percent.
EU has out-rebounded both of it’s 2006-07 opponents to date. Versus College of the Ozarks EU had a 40-37 rebounding advantage and had a 42-40 edge against Southern Nazarene
Through their first two games the Lady Crusaders have committed 59 turnovers to their opponents’ 37. EU had 32 against College of the Ozarks and 27 versus Southern Nazarene.
Evangel leads the series 40-21 and has won the last 12 meetings with Central Methodist. EU’s last loss to CMU was in Fayette, Missouri on Dec. 2, 2000 (67-63). Including that CMU win, the Lady Eagles had won 8 of 10 preceding Evangel’s current 12-game winning streak.
Last year, Evangel defeated Central Methodist 77-64 at home and 72-68 in Fayette.
In Ashcroft Center, Evangel holds a 25-4 series advantage and has won the last eight games. EU’s last loss to CMU in Ashcroft was on Jan. 11, 1999 (81-67). The other three losses to CMU in Ashcroft were on Jan. 17, 1998 (70-62), Jan. 21, 1995 (73-65), and Nov. 19, 1988 (73-52).
The first game between the two teams was played during the 1969-70 season and Central Methodist won 52-34.
Evangel is led by Leon Neal. Neal has a 283-126 record in 12 years.
Central Methodist is led by Andi Brooks in her first year.
The Lady Crusaders will travel to Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 18. Game time is 2 p.m. in Charles Field House.
In addition to all of their postseason games, two regular season Lady Crusader basketball games will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio, KGMY 1400 AM. The games are: at MidAmerica Nazarene on Dec. 7 and at College of the Ozarks on Jan. 23.

Ed Beach, Evangel director of broadcasting and marketing for athletics, will handle the play-by-play duties as the “Voice of the Crusaders” for the fifth season in a row.
Beginning after Dec. 2 of this year, a selected men’s and women’s “game of the week” will be available for viewing about a week after the contest. The Evangel games can be viewed at All In Broadcasting, www.allinbroadcasting.com. All games will be archived up to one month after the season’s end. Fans can access a game for 99 cents for 24 hours or for $2.99 can watch the game unlimited times and download it as well.
All games are a simulcast with the radio coverage on ESPN 1400 AM and the video portion is produced by ECTV (Evangel Cable Television), Evangel’s student television station.
