EU’s Neal to Sign Willard’s Jewell

On Monday, Nov. 13, head Evangel women’s basketball coach Leon Neal will sign Willard ( Mo.) High School’s Megan Jewell to play on the 2007-08 Lady Crusader basketball team.

Jewell, a 5-foot-8 senior guard at Willard, was an all-conference pick her junior year and was named the team’s MVP. Jewell also was named to the Lady Jays Classic all-tournament team last season. She showed her versatility as a junior with averages of 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.1 steals. Jewell made 35.0 percent of her 3-point tries, 48.0 percent of her field goals, and 75.0 percent of her free throws. Jewell also played AAU ball and her 2005 team placed second at the Division II national AAU tournament in Orlando, Fla.

In addition, Jewell is a member of the Willard cross country team. She earned all-conference honors as a freshman and sophomore and qualified for the state meet as a freshman.

As a student, Jewell is a member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also the sports editor on the yearbook staff.
